Cool Find: Eddie Bauer Adventurer® Field Bag

email this page

There's a good chance that putting stores in shopping malls dings the reputation of a brand that's been around since the 1930s and originally known for it's quality outerwear for sportsmen. Long before its stores showed up in malls, Eddie Bauer outerwear was respected by serious, demanding adventurers. In fact, Eddie Bauer outfitted numerous Himalayan expeditions in the 1950s and 1960s when the historical first ascents were happening in the region. Business changed over the years, as business does, and grew to target the larger consumer market that cares not to pay for performance gear and apparel. That store you see in the mall has its roots, though much of what it offers is tailored to be of value to the person on the street.

That's changing. The company has been turning its reputation around for the last couple of years; you may be familiar with its First Ascent line that's designed with the aid of guides and mountaineers like Ed Viesturs and his ilk. If not, now you are.

Eddie Bauer also makes this dashing, durable and dang affordable field bag under the Adventurer® line. The general travel bag is constructed from a heavy 500-denier CORDURA® fabric that promises to survive the rigors of adventure travel, or a road trip with toddlers. The padded sleeve inside is designed to protect a 17" notebook computer, no problem, and leaves space enough for a book, smartphone, journal, small camera, travel maps, or what-have-you. The best part, the part you put your hands on, is the leather haul handle. The bag's shoulder strap adjusts, of course, to sling across your torso as well.

Pretty snazzy for $129.

I've had this bag for about a year and love it. I like the split shoulder pad that can go over the handle of my Cabela's rolling duffle. I'm getting the back pack next!
