A Father's Promise to His Son: The Powerful Story of Ara and Spirit

Ara Gureghian's life on his motorcycle is much more than carefree fun times on the road, and I have to be careful of what I say here. He calls it his therapy and promise to his son, Lance, who died from cancer at just 26 years old. I gather from his writings that he and Lance planned to hit the road together one day as a father-son duo on motorcycles. Ara now travels with his little buddy Spirit, a rescued pit bull, and they've been all over the country on their BMW motorcycle sidecar get-up.

Imagine the cards dealt to Ara. Burying a child is a blow none of us want to endure, or could endure.  Then look at the picture of him and Spirit - who rescued whom? Spirit looks like a stoked dog at all times, with his goggles, vest, neck bandana, helmet adorned with "Bite Me" sticker. The pitbull actually works a little magic on my heart, too. If you meet Ara, you'll be drawn in by his gentleness and you'll likely never meet a pair that take care of one another so well.

The video, with perfectly selected music, gives you a peek into their day-to-day life. And we're all better off because Ara chooses to share it with us. His story drives home the point, stated early in the Steve Azar song,

I don't know where we're going
I don't know if I care
but as long as it's with you
I'll go anywhere
