9 days after crashing on a halfpipe in Park City, Utah, four-time X Games female free ski champ Sarah Burke died on January 19, 2012. She was 29. Sarah took a spill after pulling a fairly easy trick by her standards, a flat spin 540, and hit her head. There are four main arteries that supply blood to the brain, and sadly Sarah's fall ruptured one of them. The vertebral artery. She went into cardiac arrest and was flown off the mountain. Surgeons repaired the artery and put her in an induced coma that lasted until she “passed away peacefully surrounded by those she loved,” stated a release by her publicist.

Sarah won gold in the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 Winter X Games, plus she was instrumental in getting freestyle halfpipe added to the Winter Olympics for the first time in history, which will debut at the 2014 event in Sochi, Russia.

At the time this video was assembled, sometime in 2011, they had no idea what would happen on January 10, 2012. The excerpt comes from a movie by The Ski Channel, and just happens to contain fun commentary by Sarah and her newlywed husband Rory as they talk about their lives as top tier skiers and joyful lovebirds. It's a delightful short, and they are a lovely couple. Watch the video and you'll get a glimpse at Sarah's achievements, and learn how Rory popped the question. Our hearts sincerely ache for Sarah's entire family. And as a husband myself, I'm thinking especially of Rory these days.

The Sunday Morning Chillax is just a weekly series, always a video, always on Sunday morning. It's just here to spread happy thoughts about mountains, fresh air, good views, amazing people, stoke and fun as you take in the week's most relaxing morning. Yes, today's is somewhat sad, but it is also celebratory of this beautiful life.
