Dad's Dirt Roads: A blog

Rock climbing toddler kicks some serious buttArianna is an absolute rock star.

Check out her climbing technique, it's impeccable.  Not even potty trained, she has the concepts of foot placement, three points of contact at all times, shifting her weight on her feet for reach, and toward the end of the video you might think she's about to launch a dyno.

Her parents must be incredibly proud.

Dad's Dirt Roads: A blog

The GoCrib just might make the perfect travel crib for camping, road trips, or weekends at the cabin
The GoCrib - oh, sweet GoCrib, where were you when I needed you?  It packs down into a backpack and weighs a total of 11 lbs.  (Travel Lite Crib?  Yeah, that weighs 20 lbs and takes up more space than a set of golf clubs when it's packed). I love the idea that you just pump it up with the supplied air pump.  It wins points for simplicity.  It's often that the simplest design is the best. I also highly approve of the small pack size.

Mom Chronicles: Hints from the road

She's all smiles and laughs
Brooke's essay dives into the world of off-highway driving.  As she's seen, and as she's dealt with first-hand, it's a macho world that's not very inviting to women.  Off-road trips with the local club are usually long, tiring, and really just not quite the same as a day out with the girlfriends.

She's found a way that it can be fun, though, and she wants other women to experience the fun, too.  "As great as our off-highway drives and camping trips are now," Brooke says, "one point I can't overlook is that fellow women adventurers can be sparse out here. So, hello? Where are my girls at?"

Families

They're busy folks.  Nathan is in architecture, Marni in management of a civil engineering firm.  Both full time parents of two energetic children Trevor and Megan.  Still they find time to take memorable trips to the outdoors together, and they absolutely radiate with infectious mirth - once again I'm looking at kindred souls I wish were my very own neighbors.

Brace yourself for some big shockers here:
Trevor Woods, age 12, loves catching bugs and lizards, enjoys rocks of all sizes, and climbs everything in sight.
Megan Woods, age 8, loves playing in the dirt, collecting rocks, catching dragonflies, and sitting on Daddy’s lap and steering the Jeep while on the trail.

Put your hands together for the Woods Family.  All four participated in this one.
