Photo Gallery: Summertime Family Camping in Baja, Mexico

I came home from work one day last week, and Brooke, my wife, chilled me with a story right away. It went something like this:

Chloe's riding in the backseat coming home from the library and she's holding a Dora The Explorer DVD case in her hands. On the cover, Dora wears a purple bathing suit, Boots holds a beach ball, and in the background there's a giant sand castle.

Chloe stares at it, then looks out the window. I wonder what she's thinking, and then she spills it. I swear I didn't pull any of this out of her, she just said it.

"I like this Dora because she's at the beach. I went to the beach. It was called Mexico and I like Mexico because I played in the sand. Um, Mama, why did we have to be quiet in the church?"

I bet that didn't make much sense, so let me explain.  Chloe is just three.  And she's serious and she's right about everything even though it's been almost a year since that trip she's talking about. The church in question is the mission at San Ignacio - the beach in question is the whole strip of Baja that we drove down last summer. Amazing, really, what these little kids remember. And because she reminded us of it, here you go -

Like most things, there are no guarantees, but most of my experiences in Baja have been tranquil, peaceful, and perfect.
