Camera: Canon Rebel EOS 35mm | Film: Fuji Provia ISO 100 | Lens: Unknown | Setting: Definitely Unknown In simple terms, they call it "nesting" when a pregnant woman goes about cleaning the house, preparing a nursery, stockpiling books, or finishing old projects in preparation for her world to get flipped upside down when the baby arrives. Some - some - may call such behavior "erratic" and "irrational." I'm not one of them . . . well, that is unless she throws away my stuff or asks me to move into the garage for awhile. As you look at this photo, realize a few things:
Every little moment is a nesting moment, I think. At this point, we knew that we had a little girl abrewing inside. We hadn't picked out a name yet. But we thought it would be perfectly appropriate to spend a week driving down the Baja peninsula, camping on various remote beaches, sleeping in, and reading books. Taking in the slow pace of Mexico's most notoriously mañana-minded and open-spaced region, we believed, was a perfect way to introduce the little one to planet Earth. I've been sworn to secrecy about the precise location of this surf camp, but I'm certainly glad to think about taking Chloe down to this place again and letting her play around in the water and sand. We'll have all kinds of good fun. Those who know about Mexico's Baja peninsula ought to be smiling and nodding about now. Those who don't know about said peninsula are cringing at the thoughts of banditos and sombrero-clad highway robbers. I can neither confirm nor deny. -![]() |
