I should have you know that I wail on the drums in this little rock trio that often goes by the name "The Drunk Husbands" because that's far more descriptive than our real band name, Los Patrons. And while that goes on, Brooke runs, bikes and swims with a small set of other women who I like to call "The Hot Moms" because that too is far more descriptive than anything else they could come up with. For months The Hot Moms woke early, stayed up late, and worked hard to train for the 2009 Nathan Tempe Triathalon. On the morning of September 27, Brooke vanished from our bed and was treading water in Tempe Town Lake at 6:40 am waiting for the gun shot. She swam the 750 meters, got out, biked 12.3 miles, and finally got into her real groove on the 3.1 mile run to complete the whole thing in one hour and fifty-seven minutes. Here she is, inked in true triathlete style in Sharpie marker. Her number on her arms, age on her right calf, and something else on the left. Tough chick. I wouldn't mess with her. To celebrate, we ate breakfast at the AZBreadCo where she pounded a pile of strawberry pancakes before I could take my first sip of coffee.
