She found the tree with the right branch, but it took some time to find. As you can see, good, strong branches that are close enough to the ground yet far enough from the tree are few. But that's exactly what you need for a proper rope swing. My wife found the one that worked.
I lassoed the branch, tied off the webbing, tied a big figure eight on a bight that Chloe could use as a seat, and gave her some pushes. Sometimes I think my 4-year old little girl thinks the only thing I'm good for is pushing her on a swing and fetching juice pouches. Nevertheless, that's what she and I did after I'd set up the tent and lit the fire. I pushed, she swung. And I was not allowed to leave. All was right on planet Earth for the moment.
I had my eye on the fire because it was important we get some good hot coals. As I pushed and tickled and peek-a-boo'd I watched the fire from here. That's when I saw it. Or them.
Do you see what I see? Sure, that's my wife preparing some food. Look closely. Yep, that's it on the left. She's opened up two bottles of Negra Modelo. One for her, one for me. They're sitting there on the table next to the fire just waiting for us to join again, clink bottles, and take a first sip together on this lovely autumn evening in the mountains.
Eat your hearts out, fellas. I snatched her up first.
